Finding proper accommodation is important when you are participating in our half marathon. There are a couple of things you should consider when deciding where you will be staying.

1. How far is it from the venue
If it is going to take you more than 30mins just to reach the venue, then you are better off paying a bit more and staying about 10-15mins away. That will help save the time, plus, you will have more energy when you are participating. You don’t want to spend a lot of energy just commuting to the venue and then realize halfway into the run that you are getting way too exhausted.

Save you energy and get a hotel near the venue.

This applies to both, local residents and participants coming from outside the Plattsburgh city.

Don’t think that if you are a resident you can stay home and reach the venue. The 30 minute rule applies to you as well because you too will be spending the same amount of energy.

2. It should be painless to stay there
A lot of people forget about this, but you want to make sure that there are no hassles at the hotel you will be staying at. Check their reviews, see what other people are saying about them. You want to make sure that it is seamless, almost like you are living at home but sleeping in a different bed.

If you find yourself being on the call with the hotel manager for a longer time than necessary, looking for a different hotel. This applies for anything you want, whether that is for meals or booking a new room.

You want to focus on your run and make sure that you are eating the right things and resting up so you are well prepared for the half marathon.

That brings me to my next point.

3. The hotel should be able to accommodate your dietary requirements
This shouldn’t be that hard to find. You are supposed to eat a lot of carbohydrates leading up to the run. You don’t want to find out that you are low on blood sugar in the middle of the run.

So, carb up. Order whatever you want from the hotel menu but make sure you tell them what you are looking for. Tell them that you are participating in the marathon and want to make sure that you aren’t eating anything that will cause your stomach to be upset. Nothing too fatty either. You want to have as many carbs as possible because that is the most readily available source of energy we have.
